The Umoja Community Garden Project provides the local community with healthy, nutritious vegetables, fruits, and herbs grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and other substances which have been proven harmful to one’s health and the earth that sustains us.
The Hunger Coalition created the UMOJA COMMUNITY GARDEN to supply produce for their Community Outdoor Farmer's Market. The Hunger Coalition has coordinated the Community Outdoor Farmers Market since 1991. They operate four outdoor market sites. The market sites are set up once a week beginning in June through October. The Hunger Coalition works in collaboration with the WIC (Women, Infant, Children) program. WIC issues $30 worth of fruit and vegetable coupons to eligible women and children, to be redeemed at our Outdoor Markets. Our outdoor farmers markets allow us to reach low-income families by taking produce into communities. More than 2,500 families benefit from these Markets.
